Bridging the Digital Divide: WANG Lab of Innovation – WALI
In the wake of COVID-19, the digital divide in Balochistan has starkly revealed the challenges faced by rural communities in accessing online education. This situation underscores a pressing need: to equip these communities with essential digital literacy skills for navigating an increasingly technology-driven world.
The Challenge: During the pandemic, thousands of students in Balochistan were unable to participate in online classes due to limited access to computers and the internet. This gap has highlighted an alarming reality: the necessity of digital literacy for success in the modern world. The National Human Development Report 2020 by UNDP notes that only 45% of Pakistanis own mobile phones and a mere 17% have internet access, with Balochistan lagging significantly behind.
Our Mission: WANG Lab of Innovation – WALI is committed to diminishing this digital divide by empowering rural children, youth, and farmers with digital literacy skills. Our goal is to create inclusive learning environments within these communities, allowing access to digital technology without the need to travel far from home.
