Empowering Adolescents in Rural and Remote Communities
The Adolescent Development Initiative (ADI) by WANG is a pivotal program focused on promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and Menstrual Health Management (MHM) in rural and remote areas. ADI empowers young individuals, especially girls, by providing essential education and resources to navigate their health and rights effectively.
ADI in Lasi language refers to Sister.
Our Approach
School-Based SRHR Sessions: ADI conducts targeted educational sessions in schools, delivering vital information on SRHR. These sessions are designed to be accessible and relevant to the unique needs of adolescents in rural communities.
Menstrual Health Management and Support: Acknowledging the challenges faced during disasters, ADI provides menstrual kits and pads to communities in need. This initiative ensures uninterrupted access to menstrual hygiene products, particularly during times of crisis.
Peer Education Network: At the heart of ADI’s strategy is the creation of a peer education network. This network trains adolescents to become peer educators, disseminating knowledge about SRHR and MHM within their communities, thereby amplifying the impact of the program.
Community Engagement and Capacity Building: ADI actively involves community stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and local leaders, in dialogues and capacity-building sessions. This holistic approach fosters a supportive environment for adolescent health education and advocacy.
Impact and Vision
ADI’s initiatives have led to significant achievements in rural and remote areas:
Looking Forward
ADI is dedicated to building a future where adolescents in rural and remote areas are well-informed and empowered to make decisions about their reproductive health. Through education, resource provision, and community engagement, ADI is not only addressing immediate health needs but also fostering long-term societal changes towards greater gender equality and health equity.
