In the global fight against climate change, the role of local communities and youth is paramount. Recognizing this, the Las Jawan Project, orchestrated by WANG, is a beacon of youth-led climate action in Lasbela district.

WANG has been in the field of climate action for a long long time through youth mobilization, advocacy and community engagement, and in recent deadly floods of Lasbela WANG led the rescue and relief movement from the front.

Youth at the Forefront of Sustainable Development

With a staggering engagement of over 25,000 individuals, the Las Jawan Project is a testament to the power of youth in driving sustainable change. 666 young men and 1,121 young women are leading this charge, aligning their efforts with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 13: Climate Action.

Capacity Building and Knowledge Transfer

Through comprehensive workshops, the project equips participants with the requisite knowledge and tools to counteract climate change’s adverse effects. These sessions serve as platforms for both learning and empowerment, fostering a new generation of climate advocates.

Witnessing the Global Phenomenon Locally

Experiential learning is a cornerstone of the Las Jawan Project. Exposure visits to places like Kund Malir Beach and Kishrai River offer tangible insights into the real-world implications of climate change, bridging the gap between global narratives and local realities.

A Dialogue for Global Change

Public dialogues, integral to the project, facilitate meaningful discussions between participants, community leaders, and climate experts. These sessions underscore the importance of collaborative global efforts, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Action Aligned with Global Goals

The project’s diverse social action initiatives reflect a holistic approach to sustainable development:

      • Promotion of Arts and Advocacy: Through essay and painting competitions.

      • Towards a Sustainable Tomorrow: Initiatives like solar street light installations and reusable bag distributions.

      • Engaging Communities: Events such as cricket tournaments and speech competitions amplify the climate resilience message.

    Voices of Change

Several participants shared their transformative experiences:

        • Hassan: “The Las Jawan Project illuminated the global context of our local challenges. Today, my actions are not just for Lasbela but for a sustainable world.”

        • Arfa: “Empowerment, for me, came through leading and learning. The project gave me a platform to be an agent of global change.”

        • Nasrullah Qasim: “Every artwork I created became a voice in the global dialogue on climate change.”

A Global Blueprint for Local Resilience

The Las Jawan Project epitomizes the essence of community-driven resilience, underscoring the belief that global challenges require local solutions, driven by youth and anchored in sustainable practices.

      In Conclusion

The Las Jawan Project, as showcased by WANG, stands as a global model of how youth can drive climate resilience at the grassroots level. Their efforts, rooted in local realities but aligned with global goals, exemplify the spirit of the United Nations’ mission for a sustainable future
