Champions for Climate Action: The LAS Jawan Project Empowers Youth in the Fight Against

Get ready to act on climate change! We are thrilled to announce the launch of our newest project, Local Action for Sustainability by Youth (LAS Jawan) This initiative is all about empowering young people in the Lasbela district to become climate champions in their communities.

Lasbela, as many of you are aware, is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change due to its geographical location. The recent floods in the region demonstrated just how devastating the effects of climate change can be, affecting most of the population and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

That’s where the Las Jawan program comes in. In the next 8 months are so we will be training 75 young leaders through three training workshops (each with 25 participants) in the five union councils of the Tehsil Bela region (UC Bela City, UC Gadore, UC Kathore, UC Shumali Walpt, UC Junobi Welpat). These young leaders will then work on 20 to 25 climate action projects focused on adaptation, mitigation, and other related challenges.

To help the young people we’re working with and include technology in the project’s execution, we’ll be using the WANG Lab of Innovation (WALI). We will also make digital content in the local languages to teach people about how important it is to be ready for climate change.

As part of the project, we will be hosting two climate action project exhibitions to showcase the work of the young leaders to the community and two public dialogues with stakeholders to address climate change issues faced by Lasbela communities.
