Empowering youth through community actions

The youth of the day have the energies and will towards social change. What usually stop them from contributing to change is the platform and the right set of skills. WANG has always been in front of filling this gap by providing learning and networking opportunities. As, we strongly believe youth energies need to be utilized properly for the betterment of society, in case of negligence these energies could be exploited by different actors.

WANG has always been an active platform for young people of Lasbela to contribute towards society. Recently, two of our volunteers Aftab Ahmed and Moula Baksh aka MB have completed an eight-month-long fellowship program organized by Empowerment thru Creative Integration (ECI) supported by UNDP Pakistan. ECI is a Pakistan-based training and consultancy firm with a mission to develop capacities of individuals and institutes in order to bring about socio-economic transformation in their respective areas.

Aftab and MB have completed their successful fellowship by completing all the stages of the program. Volunteers jointly won a small grant to implement a community action project in Lasbela as well. Through community action project named as “Sports for Girls Leadership” program volunteers provided sports kits to two selected schools in Bela tehsil and conducted 20 sessions in each school. Sessions were focused on life skills using sports as a tool.

The intervention provided the opportunity to 53 children of both schools to learn life skills. The project also contributing to making school more entertaining and attractive for children to decrease drop out ratio. WANG has been already running Sports-based programs in 18 other schools in the Lasbela, where the results are very inspiring. Schools are reporting more enrollments, increased attendance, and decrease in drop out ratio.

WANG will continue it’s a mission towards a fairer society by empowering young people. Such opportunities for our volunteers just don’t provide a platform for our volunteers to learn but they become more confident and skillful human resources for the team. WANG really appreciates such opportunities from ECI and UNDP.
